Judging a catalogue site before you trust its finds

A catalogue is only as good as its last check, so the test is about dates, links and a name, not about how many finds it shows.

Finds catalogues are easy to start and tedious to keep, so many stop being kept. What makes a useful Spreadsheet is not its size; it is whether the basics still hold: facts carry a date, links still open the right page, someone is named as responsible, corrections have somewhere to go, and referral links are listed rather than hidden.

Test any catalogue against those five in a few minutes. Open three links at random. Look for a date next to any fee or rule. Read the about page and the dated correction record. A missing date or dead link is a reason to verify the claim before relying on it; a fixed failure count cannot establish whether a site is maintained.

The five checks, applied to Fair Warning

Run the same five checks on this catalogue. Agent pages quoted here were re-read on 18 October 2026 and the shop listings checked on 19 October 2026; each figure caption carries its date. Local links are checked during this review; availability of external pages is recorded only when a request was actually completed. The team behind it is described on the about page, with the editorial boundaries and referral links listed beside it.

Where this site cannot check something, it says so: shade under your lights, a seller's answer that never came, a line price that changes weekly. The change log records each revision.

Personal finds lists and why this is not one

Many catalogues in this field are one person's finds list, built around their taste and their referral codes, and they come and go with that person's interest. That is not a criticism; it is a reason to check the dates. This site is not anyone's personal list and does not promote any personality. Its shelves come from the catalogue, and the only things added here are the seller warnings, the agent quotes and the dates.
